Its been on the go for a while and it works a treat I'm sure I had to add an MP3 file onto the SD card to get it recognised for some strange reason, but apart from that I can't fault it.

The site that my-gti links to is rubbish.
The German one is far superior.

    Try here http://www.volkswagen-nav-companion.de/results.jsf

Below is instructions on how to do it (Taken from Erik van Voorst on the golfgtiforum.co.uk)
It actually sounds more complicated than it is.
If you would rather see how it is done have a look here
    http://www.cameluk.co.cc/Picnavi.htm

    Press above link

    1. Put your SD-card in the PC.

    2. Make a new map and call it GPS-Pictures and a new map called Destinations on your SD card.

    3. Make a few .jpg on your desktop call them Home, Work, Hotel etc.

    4. In the nav com program fill out "INTERESSE" (=Interest) with e.g. your address or postal code

    5. In the nav com program fill out "ORT" (= Place) with e.g. London

    6. Press "SUCHE STARTEN" (=start searching)

    7. After finding your address Press "BILD LADEN" (= load image)

    8. Another screen pops up and Press "BLADEREN" (= browse)

    9. Enter an image e.g Home.jpg from your desktop

    10. Press "JETZ LADEN" (=load now)

    11. Enter a titel e.g. Home

    12. Enter "BESCHREIBUNG" (=info) e.g full address, phone, opening hours

    13. Press "FUR BILDNAVIGATION SPEICHERN" (= load as image navigation)

    14. Now get your SD card out of the PC into the RNS

    15. Enter Navigation and press new adress

    16. Wait for the RNS to load the sd card will take a minute or so...from grey to black

    17. Press SD card destination (or ask voice control)

Once it is set up correctly it should look like this but obviously with your pictures. (Again thanks to Erik van Voorst)

Yes it is actually from VW as far as I know.

I'm surprised a site hasn't been created with various locations already made up so you can just transfer them on to your SD card.

Gave it a try and once it loads up it looks pretty cool, gave me something else to play with now.

    Question for p3asa

Thanks for the info regarding the German Nav Companion site.

Managed to get the VWLabs version working great - but how do you get the image navigation (pictures) onto the RNS510?? I followed your excellent instructions but cant access images.

Mine is a September 2009 car and I "think" the version you are showing has newer firmware/software I think?????

Can my existing RNS510 be altered by the dealer to use image navigation?? or is it a different harddrive/computer/unit instead.

Once you have the pictures on your SD card put it in your RNS510.
    Select navigation / New destination.
In the bottom right you should have SD Destination which is probably blacked out. Its takes a minute or two to be selectable after you have put the SD card in.

    And that's it.

If you don't have the SD Destinations icon then you probably have old firmware on your head unit. You can upgrade it to newer software on the my-gti site here
