I need to remove the trim from the tailgate of my A4 Avant, to replace the tailgate release solenoid. I've removed the 4 screws (2 behind the warning triangle stowage etc) and eased the trim away from the metal. I have eased the 4 push in fixings that are along the join between the fuzzy liner and the solid grey plastic, but it still seems to be fixed, maybe it slots into the window surround? Any advice welcome!

I struggled with the same thing when I first took mine out. It almost looked stuck, but you are right it does clip into the window surround plastics. If I remember rightly it literally just pulls off, but you have to pull it the same direction as the clips clip into the metal (the 4 that run along the inside).

Hope this helps, i should have taken photos, they are worth a thousand words.

Just to clarify, (before I use too much force!), I don't have to remove the window surround, the lower trim comes off on it's own?
    (It's a 2004 B6)

I thought this as well, but the lower trim bit does come off first. Once you take the lower trim off you can see screws holding the window surround on, you can just see these if you bend the lower trim back on the sides. I actually undid these with the lower trim still in place (very tricky) but once removed realised I didn't have to take them out, and the lower trim was just held on the sides by locating lugs.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Guys

Yes, the lower and upper halves are clipped together (not joined). You have to hook in behind and pull it straight in relation to the windscreen.

We've just recently produced a video on this that will make it easy to see the full process including splitting the lower and upper sections. Check it out:
