hi,i have a mk 5 golf 2005 1.9tdi 105bhp,i am having problems with starting the car when hot.i would crank the car over about 10-12 times before the engine would fire.i have replaced numerous engine coolant temp sensors an this hasnt fixed the prob.i brought the car to my local VW dealer they ran diagnostic tests,an came up with the answer that the car requires a starter motor.the car starts perfect when cold,it only gives this problem when hot.the dealer had disconnected the wire going to the engine coolant temp sensor and the car started normally.does anyone no what the problem may be? thanks J.Burrows.

sounds right had the same problem with my 05 golf tdi, the problem is the engine doesnt have to crank so fast for a cold start as it does for a hot start hence when u disconnect the sensor it thinks its cold and starts faster. i didnt replace my starter i just reconditioned it cost me €70 and its 10 times better but still not perfect. for a hot start the engine has to be cranking between 270-280 rpm, mine was at 200 before its cranking at 250 now hope this helps. oh and i also had the temp sensor replaced, didnt do a thing to help.
