    Hi.
I have two german shepherds, one of which we show. This means training a few times a week and going to shows up and down the country. One of the reasons I bought the passat was for the boot space and here are a few extras to keep his highness happy.

Firstly a dog guard from here.

    http://www.travall.co.uk/index.php?m...roducts_id=587

I got it a bit cheaper through ebay as I had a voucher to use. I have used this company before and like there products. Its well built and easy to use.

Next a tailgate guard. I looked at buying a cage but it meant losing some of the space. If I only had one dog then I might have gone down that road but I am very happy with this.

    http://www.barjo.co.uk/products/tail...uards?#options

This guard means that we can leave them in the car with the t/gate up and with them safe and secure.

It appears a lot of money for what it is but having used it a few times I am glad I got it. I still retain full use of the boot without messing about with taking a cage out. Plus and I know this is soft but the boys can still see whats going on!
It needs two to fit it and I did loads of measuring and closing of the tailgate to ensure I got a good fit. The rivets they supply are not long enough but I had some from my panel beating days that did the trick. I checked behind the trim before drilling and cut down the length of the stud afterwards.

It doesnt rattle at all when driving and doesnt obscure the view. It fastens with wing nuts which you could replace with nuts and you can also lock it with a padlock.
I had to collect a fridge freezer the other day and it took about a minute to remove this.

In some of the pics you can see a protector on top of the bumper, this is to stop the dogs or anything else marking the paintwork.
It cost me £30 from a VW dealer. It fastens with double sided tape. but I added a few more peices and once we had a warmish day fitted it. I then left it overnight.
Looks like it was on the car from new.

Next a vent lock. For the money this is brilliant.

    http://www.ventlock.com/tailgatelock...32ba9463146d2e

It fastens to the tailgate lock and and the car to leave a gap. You can then lock they car and the boys have some ventilation. I got the 9 inch version.
I also bought the solar blanket, again appears well made.

Right, next I found a sun blind on ebay from this seller. Cost just over £20 and again quite pleased with it. What I would add though is that it would probably fit an earlier passat better because it leave a gap along the trim. The blind is straight and clearly the tailgate on the B6 isnt. I can live with mine though as the tailgate guard obscures it. I didnt use the fitting kit supplied with but used self tapping screws instead.

    http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/vw-parts-shop/

If you look at some of his listing he has a phone number. When I got mine it stated 10 available but I dont think he has relisted anymore .
Perhaps worth ringing if you like it.

I got a boot liner from this seller on ebay but dont have any pics. I have had liners before and this is quite a good one. For my liking it needs a bit more velcro sewing on to it which my glorious assistant is going to do.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-PASSAT-ESTA...item483a73c9c6

    And these are the chaps.

And I think thats it. Just wanted to help someone else who maybe in the same postion as I researched this to death before buying.

    Cheers Stuart.

Well researched! I'm sure the man's best friend fans will appreciate! The bumper protector looks good value - do you have any further details? Brand, P/n, etc?

Reminds me of one of the early magazine adds for the Passat estate.

Don't know if anyone remembers it, but it depicted a black estate on a beach and the driver was standing at the back with the tailgate open, pulling on a dog leash.

    The caption was something like:

"It's so good they won't want to come out again"

So I'm surprised you need a guard to keep them in, Mr Rover

I am woof a number, I am a free woofer, woof woof woof, a line made famous by Pawtrick McGoohound,

Seriously though, you can't claim a dog unit mod until you fit a Jordan, only then will it become a true kennel.

    Hi The Rover,

    Nice job!

Is that an official VW dog guard for the Passat (is there such a thing as an official VW one) ?

I'm about to order a Passat estate soon (for Sept 1st) and will be looking for a dog guard so any recommendations or advice would be most welcome.

That looks spot on mate. I may be after the tailgate guard, it looks good if not a bit pricey..

I just got a halfords dog gaurd to keep my american bulldog at bay, lol http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165716

It just attaches to the back of the headrest's and is good for what you pay for it

The mat is next on the list though, white dog, and dark coloured interior is not a good mix...

Take a look here. I've used them before for an x trail and that was also excellent quality. Not sure what VW charge.

I looked at this option ( the mesh guard ) although from a different supplier. I seem to spend a fair amount of my life at the local skip so wanted something where I could still drop the seats forward without too much messing about.

As for the liner I would reccommend the one I have listed from ebay.

You are more than welcome to take a look at my set up as I dont think your miles away.
