  1. Halfords' rear parking sensors

I know most of you has this option already on your passat so not many of you would know much about this. i've had my car for 2 weeks now and parallel parking is a pain as i just cant work out where the back end is. i would send my wife out everytime i dock this mothership.

they are doing a deal on rear sensors, 2 sensors for £100 or 4 for £150 fitted. i'm not too sure how good the quality might be or if they are able to connect it to my reverse gear.

    any thoughts?

someone has mentioned it's only £350 for front and back sensors from VW, is that fitted?

oh and i want to get some of those VW blinds for the back windows, how much are they? can it be fitted myself?

    thanks again

My advice would be get a decent set off ebay - probably around £45-50. That's what mine cost, and they were supplied sprayed to my colour code as well.

As far as fitting goes you can either do it yourself or get a local garage to do it - I was quoted £60 for fitting (which would have included drilling and wiring to the reverse light)...

To be honest I wouldn't trust halfords to mess with your car - to get access to the reverse light means taking a fair bit of trim apart in the boot (and knowing which coloured wire in that lot of Canbus wires to link to). And you're also asking them to remove and drill your treasured and expensive bumper too...

One word of advice is that if you remove the rear bumper you will see exactly where the factory fit sensors fit, so you can be sure it's going to look OEM, even if you go third party.

Thanks and good luck.... No idea on the blinds, sorry.

I fitted the halfords type that go either side of the reg plate( Meta Targa ).....thought long and hard about it too and wondered would they be any good. Having had them on about a month now i have to say they are great ! Finds kerbs and low obstructions no problem. They do a tow bar friendly version aswell which is dearer, which is funny because i have a towbar fitted and the standard kit works just fine ??Fitting only took about 2 hours including tea breaks

do you have a picture of it on your passat? i want to see how bulky it is before i make my decision.

btw i called VW and they said they couldnt fit sensors. i dont know whether it's to do with their branch or just dont do it at all.

Have the Navara with me today, i'll be home in about an hour so i'll take a snap for you and post it up. I just didn't want the hassle of drilling 4 holes in the bumper, this kit only required one hole behind the reg plate and pull the wires through the existing factory grommit for number plate light........

I bought the meta targa system after reading the reviews on here. Do a search as there are quite a few threads, some with pics.

Fitted it myself in about an hour, very pleased with it.

Took some pictures which I will post on Friday. ( Work committments)

    Cheers Stuart.

ps. Got it from ebay with a cheeky bid.
    Working too hard.

I've had Meta Targas on mine almost since I bought it, and would definitely recommend them if you're not into drilling the bumper - these are quick and easy - and to be honest I couldn't be bothered....

It came down to a few niggling things - firstly the 'hole' left in the dash with a single-din stereo, also having to remember to remove the fascia or risk attempted theft.

When it came down to it, I preferred the OEM look (sacrificing the features and sound quality of the Sony) and surprisingly what i really missed was auto-volume - funny really, because I never really noticed it before... I managed to sell the Sony for a fair bit so there wasn't much financial loss.

Back to the ops original question, here's a pic from another thread i've got, showing an ebay reverse sensor in place in the rear bumper (factory fit position)...
