Newbie here so apoligies as Im sure this has been asked before but I cant see an answer anywhere.

Just got myself a 2006 MK5 GTI with a MFD2 Radio/Sat nav and a 6 disc CD player in the armrest.
What are my options for connecting up an MP3 player to this set up?

From my knowledge your options are limited. The ipod interfaces from what I have used/seen use the same input in the stereo as the cd autochanger. Best compromise may be:

    1) Sell your MFD2 and autochanger on fleabay and get a RCD500 (6 disc in dash equivalent of what you have now)... go for the mp3 version if you can, so you can play MP3 cds.... then buy a dension (or similar) ipod interface which will use the cd input. You would also need to buy an aftermarket satnav though too..

    2) buy all in one bluetooth/ipod such as parrot mki9200 which does not use the cd input, but uses iso connections and phone input. This unit does not use the stereo's amp, but the sound quality is still very good.

    3) Accept you can't have autochanger and Ipod link with current set up and decide which is more important.

The easiest compromise is probably number 2

    Thanks for the info.
There is an option in the settings of the head unit for an AUX connection and from that you can choose either video and audio or audio only.
Is this an additional AUX connection or the one that the CD unit is connectd to?
