    Hi all,

When I bought my Audi A4, it only came with one key, can anyone recommend a good way of getting a spare key, other than going to the main Audi dealer (high cost).

I know I can buy a replacement (old) key from ebay, but who can cut and programme it, if anyone knows of someone/place in Kent that can do it for me at a reasonable price I would appreciate it.

    Cheers

    Liam.

You can buy the correct remote key from ebay, and get a new blade cut, and sync the remote part to the car yourself.

Fot the immobiliser your best bet is to visit a good auto-locksmith.

If your 99 Audi has the earlier 'static code' immobiliser they will be able to clone the transponder in one of your existing master keys.

If you have the later 'rolling code' type, you will have to visit the dealers for it.

    Hi pintpotter

You say you only paid £25 for the programming. I bought a remote central locking kit off of ebay (right-click.com) for about £30 that has 2 RCL fobs.

I haven't had a chance to fit the RCL kit yet, as I've had other issues with my car (immoboliser not recognising key), but I did get both of the blanks cut for £6. The same locksmith will happily clone my original transponder, but my new RCL fobs (flip type from right-click.com) did not come with transponders, so how did your bloke manage to programme your key? Did he supply the transponder as well? or did you buy a key that had a blank transponder?

As part of my immoboliser investigations, I've decided that I might need to order a new programmed key from Audi for £75, which I will take apart and use the transponder. Apparantly, they can provide a blank key that is preprogrammed to my car (as I have the original key code). I won't need the key cut, as I have the 2 spare right-click fobs already cut.

Is this a good use of money, or can anyone advise a better way?

    Kind Regards
    Lee

Can you not take the transponders out of the keys and put them into the new key? ( im presuming the transponders are chips in the plastic part of the original key)

A writeable transponder 'chip' for an early VAG car costs literally pence (£2ish for 'static' ID13).

You can get an HU66 flip-key head with blank blade & ID48 'Rolling' transponder for £7.

For £75 you can probably buy a tool for reading your existing static transponder capsule, and writing new ones (cloning).

An auto locksmith will provide this service for maybe £10-£20, phone around until you get a cheap quote, as some want to charge ridiculous money.

Removing the capsule from an existing key is difficult as they are often bonded in, and break easy.

    Genius!

Can't believe I didn't think of this before. Mind you I would never have known "ID13". Is there a specific place you would recommend to get the ID13 transponder Ini?, or would any of the companies (Hong Kong mostly) that I've seen on Google search be sufficient?

If I can get this all working for under £45, I'll be very happy indeed!

Apparently my hand-held VAGCOM code reader arrived in the post today, so I can't wait to get home and read my immoboliser error code.

    Cheers!

An auto-locksmith will provide new transponder capsules for you when you get your existing one cloned.

The car will then see all those keys as the same key.
