Hi guys this has been ongoing now for sometime but iv only just about saved up enough money to buy a new flywheel but now it gets confusing!

I have a Mk4 Golf gt tdi 'gti' 150bhp ARL engine
Im wanting a single mass flywheel conversion as im going to get a remap to 206bhp (or there abouts) and appently the original duel mass flywheel and clutch can only stand 180bhp, which will no good to me, does anyone know the actual figures of what a duel mass flywheel and clutch set can handle?

id still perfer a single mass even if the duel mass could stand 200+bhp as then i can get rid of the exspensive problem of it going again but for my engine the single mass flywheels are like gold dust to come by and when i have found one they want way over the odds for one.

    Can some pleeease help !!

A standard DMF for the 6 02m speed box will handle 400nm + of torque if driven correctly. Since your are mapping to over 200bhp this will be giving you over 400 mn of torque so therefore you will need and uprated clutch to stop slippage, the standard clutch WILL NOT HOLD over 400nm. You would get away with a DMF as long as you develop a religious habit of not flooring it at low rpm in anything higher than second gear...

I knew of a guy who was running a tdi 130 with a turbo dynamics MD 376 turbocharger, FMIC,uprated SACHS clutch and a DMF. The car was putting out 240 bhp and near 500nm. The DMF lasted fine because he drove as I explained above...

A solid flywheel sounds horrid when the car is idle and the clutch released.... And plus it will allow more vibration into your gearbox causing more wear...

The choice is yours... Reliable power will cost you. Ever consider a 1.8t AUM... A remap alone will see 220bhp with one of those

I am curious. What does the gear have to do with flooring it? I thought the flywheel/clutch is at the engine end of the gearbox (pre-gearing), and the engine puts out the same power/torque regardless of the gear. So why would the clutch cope any better with flooring in fourth compared with flooring in first?

    thank you

for the DMF Id go with
    http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Vo...5ba0dcb79&DMFW

For the uprated Sachs with release bearing Id do with

    http://www.jabbasport.com/store/inde...CK6SPDSACHSTDI

Jabba also have the above kit with a Solid flywheel but your car will sound like it has something wrong with it IMO,they sound terrible

Not much else I can help you with I think

PS . Dont forget to investigate the site sponsors on here , they may well be cheaper again!

Water is wet, the sky is blue and 1.9 TDI DMF's will self destruct when you floor it at low revvs in a high gear on a car thats remapped

as im learning in my 204 bhp remapped pd 150 tdi, the torque is so awesome even in 6th gear i just had too much fun outdragging the motorway bmw's merc's and audis who think they own the 3rd lane..... too easy

sachs organic race clutch and new dmf will be going in my car next, im in the early stages of failure ... noticable at about 2500 rpm in 4th and above when i FLOOR it the revs jump ahead of the correct speed by about 500 rpm then hover untill my gear catches up with the revs.

its very rare i fell the need to floor my car, after going from a 1.4 polo to the 150pd iv learnt to use my gears other then power to overtake people so 90% of the time i use no more then half throttle, the other 10% of the time been little boyracers in there saxo's....thats just insulting when they think they can beat me!

so im still confused, so right now im after an after market clutch and flywheel? as she going to be sat at 206bhp as soon as i have the time to do it!

oh i know all about using my gears mate, my last car was a subaru turbo i also spent 4 years on tracks in the uk racing a 250 cc 2 stroke grand prix bike (honda rs250 gp bike upto 165 genuine mph).

once you remap your golf u will find yourself driving about the roads 1 gear higher than now ... this is because 4th will now pull just like 3rd ... from low speeds, this means once on the motorway there is hardlly any need for any other gear apart from 6th !!!!!! and with so much torque there is no need to drop down to 5th for anoything other than racing with a ferrari

however ..... using this torque from low revs in high gears will destroy your dmf. the racer instinct inside me cant accept some1 overtaking me on the motorway .... once i fit my new dmf and clutch i guess i will start dropping a gear simply so my revs are not so low before i floor it ... .saving my dmf from failure. its just so easy to drive lazy without changing gears after the remap
