Which engine is the dog one and how do you tell if it's in the car?

Better explain better, this BKP etc code for the type of engine, what I'd like to know is which one is the bad one and were the later ones any better, and also where to look to find which engine is fitted to any particular car.

    thx in advance.

Search on here. BKP is the code all the negative posts have been about. 05/06 ones worst I believe (oil pump failures). 07 a little better but still has the expensive injectors. Mine is 07.

Great!!!!! Long life servicing is a real no no if . I think I will be changing my oil at 10k also using engine flush as it may help the pump last a bit longer!!!!.

I'm looking to do that myself if I get one, I believe the one I'm negotiating on at this time is on set servicing already, personally I don't gig this long life bull, it's purely there for fleet managers to save Ł150 per unit over the time they lease it, oil is oil regardless when it comes to contaminates, and these build on every cycle of the engine, some oil stays on the bore wall during combustion, then along comes the scrapper ring to pull the carbonised residue back into the sump with the rest of the oil, only my personal opinion though so don't take it as law, I'd also recommend inj cleaner in the tank every 20k to help keep the squirter's pattern clean, but use a good quality one not some stuff on Tesco's shelf for Ł2.99, I use Fortrun ones myself, VAG has issues about cleaners, when I bought the Skoda I was told not to use either fuel or engine cleaner in it, I heed the engine one due to the potential sludge to oil feed issue, but the tank one I use without any problems, I wonder if VAG prefer you to get gunked up so they can have access to your wallet fixing things that have blocked up.

Does anyone have the full engine code list available and the time period the engine was likely to have been fitted? you can't trust the dealers tbh, I've seen an 09 CR Sport, but I'm 50/50 as to if it really is a CR, the car has the newer radio unit in it, but the performance figures they list don't tally to a CR or a PD for that matter

I am sure PDs gave way to CRs by mid/late 08. An 09 is certainly a CR.

Not always, there is the old stock thing, I once had a mate who had an R reg Pug 405, as the 406 came about on an N plate it made his look like something was amiss, but it turned out it was a Pug internal car and they simply hadn't registered it until 1997, the radio unit in the VW would hopefully suggest a CR as the car is new spec, just a shame they deleted the Sport for what I can only describe as a chavved out mess R Line, horrid seats, no rear electric windows and a body kit that just looks stupid imo.

You are right, however nowadays there is so much pressure on dealers to achieve sales targets you are more likely to see "pre reg" dealer stock cars rather than a late reg as you described. Re the passing of the Sport - it looks like the VW answer is really the CC, not the R Line. That looks as if it is just a chavved 'S' - maybe as the S's never did fly off the shelves.
