While stationary? I'd say so, yes - I can't rev over 2500 when stationary in the golf - I assume it's a safety/engine wear feature.

And why would you want to? (apart from MOT smoke test) Just wondering!

Although it is a few years since I have needed to take my own diesels for an MOT, I remember they always revved the nuts off it a few times to check for excess smoking. At the time I remember there was always the concern that if the cam belt was due (or suspect) it may be best to sort it before the MOT in case it failed on the test . No doubt one of our Pros on the forum can advise...

This has been on the B6 forum before. Someone suggested trying it with the ESP turned off seemed to let it go all the way to the red line. Not tried it myself.

I can confirm that, on a Golf, this indeed does work: ESP on - 2500 limit. ESP off - no limit.

Does that have anything to do with launch control? I seem to remember ESP off, foot on the brake, floor the accelerator, release brake and enjoy!

    I'm not sure - I don't have DSG...

I seem to remember launch control is only offered on the 'sportier' models or variants but that may have changed. The Audi TT 3.2 V6 and the Passat R36 come to mind. You can find YouTube(?) drivers seat videos of an R36 being so enjoyed.
