Hi Guys, been looking for an answer here but can't seem to see anything that really matches my problem.

For some reason, my drivers side door will not unlock using the key fob, although all the other doors unlock and lock fine.

If the drivers doors are locked, the only way for me to get the door open is to manually open with the key in the door. Pulling the handle inside the car does not seem to unlock it.

When i hit the unlock button on the fob, it does sound like it is trying to unlock the door, but with no luck.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, it doesn't seem to be a problem with the fob as most people seem to be having. Just wondering if there is perhaps a way to reset the door locking mechanism rather than the keys to see if that makes a difference?

if the fob locks the other doors rule that out cos it works
does the drivers door lock when u use the locking switch in the car ?
does everything else work on that door wing mirror windo lights ?
it could be a faulty lock or a wireing problem very common

I could be waaay off with this, but...

I had a similar problem, and plugging VAG COM in gave a number of "comfort ECU" faults. I can't remember the codes - sorry!

Traced to corroded connections within the door.

Still having this issue although I haven't had a chance to take it to a VAG-COM specialist yet.
It just seems to be getting more and more strange each day.
I can unlock and lock all doors except drivers door using the fob, every now and again, if i turn the ignition with the drivers door closed I lock myself in the car and the only way to open the door is to put the window down, reach out and unlock the door with the key from the outside...!
The electric windows are also very intermittent - sometimes they work fine, other times they only work if the drivers door is open, sometimes i can press the window button once and it will work, but not twice... it's all very weird. And to top it off, i woke up this morning to find that the car had opened the two front windows by itself in the middle of the night and the seats and inside of the doors were soaked as it had been raining pretty heavily... :-(

It seems like the whole computer system needs to be reset, does anyone know if there is a way to do this easily?

Going to try and take it in to have codes read this week, but nearest audi specialist is a couple of hours drive away from me unfortunately...

If anyone has any info that might help it would be much appreciated...

Mybet is that you have a puddle of water in your convenience module under the passenger seat

The most common fault on Audi's apart from Coil pack failure

If I am right its because water isnt leaving your battery holder correctly and runs through the plenum chamber into the car and pooling in the recess you have in your car flooring where the covenience moduel lives

Check your passenger footwell first, is it wet ??

Check the wiring loom going to the door, inside the rubber boot.

As the others have said :

You are looking at one of two common faults. Drain plugs in the plenum chamber are blocked and water has flooded into the passenger foot well, soaking the convience control unit.

Or the wiring between the door and the car has chaffed. Remove the rubber protective boot and check the wiring. This is my bet as to what has happend. Expecially given the fact that you say that sometimes the windows will only work with the drivers door open.

I wouldn't worry about getting a VAG-Com scan, all that will say is something like:

Drivers door won't unlock, Drivers door wont de-safe.

Which you already know, wont tell you why though.

The reason you have to open the window and use the key is because the control unit is failing to tell the lock actuator to unlock and is also failing to tell the deadlock to disengage.

yep, this is something i went though earlier this year. Intermittent electric windows, door locking etc etc.. turned out to be the wire which is behind a plastic gator in between the pillar and the door. Sounds very much like you may have a similar issue as others have already said, definitely the first thing to check before fiddling about with (expensive) convenience modules and the like...

Cheers guys for all the advice,

Took the car up to a guy locally who has VAG-COM, ran a check and there are a few faults, but upon inspection of the wiring loom going to the door there were several wires gone. After re-soldering these as a temp fix windows seem to be functioning again properly. Still have a problem with the central locking though, in that the drivers door will not unlock or lock when using the fob. VAG-COM turned up a fault with the drivers door control module so chances are this will need to be replaced.
Going to drop it in to him again next week for a service anyway and hopefully get that sorted, and will post back with more info.

    Many thanks again!

Hi Shuggy1001. I have the VERY EXACT SAME PROBLEM that you have with my 2009 Jetta. The driver's door won't unlock, but the rest of the doors will unlock. I changed the FOB batteries and reprogramed the fobs. I am convinced that it's not the remotes.

If you find an answer to this, can you PLEASE email me ? My email address is: jeffphelps70@gmail.com.
    Thanks,
    Jeff
