Recommended engine oil for 2.0T FSI?

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a couple of 1 litre oil for top up reasons. My car is currently running on long life service and I have no idea what oil to use. According to the Audi manual I should use VW 503 00 or VW 504 00 but what grade does this equate to? Also what brand do Audi recommend or is used by the dealers?

I use Castrol Edge 5W-30 which is VW LongLife Spec

My opinion is that you should use Castrol edge, just make sure it's got the 504 00 code on the back of the bottle (507 00 for diesels, same oil though). Castrol Edge is a branding they use for various specs of oil..You need to select the one reccomended for 'Modern VW and Audi Engines'.... at the dealers they call it Longlife III ....

Not sure if it's just propoganda but they say they design the engines around castrol oil, and VAG even print CASTROL onto the filler cap...

There was also the older spec Longlife II oil that was replaced by the Longlife III... I don't think you can buy this branded as Castrol any longer... but as Quantum instead...

Hi, if possible, always use synthetic and 5w40 (Mobil1 or Castrol), I think this is what Audi said you need to use.

The correct stuff is Quantum Synta Longlife III 5w30 available from any dealer.

The synta is a semi synthetic, the one you want is in the gold coloured container and is called Quantum longlife 111 5W-30 VW 504 00/507 00 approved. I do believe its made by castrol anyway. A good price from TPS, £22 + vat for 5 ltrs.

Thanks for the replies. Phoned the dealership up a couple of days ago and they said they use Shell Helix Ultra 5w-30.
