    I'm posting for a friend who has a V plate 2.7T, he's had it for a while and is now thinking of tuning it for fast road use.

    He's not wanting to go the top, just a exhaust and a map/chip for now.

    The question is what exhaust, can he loose all the cats (retaining the oe main cats for mot time), or are the pre cat too hard to get too? Whats the best way to go on the mapping, will he better with a live mapping, will a pre made one have the same result? i.e would it be worth the extra money?

    Any advice will be much appreciated

    In the wrong forum, but here's your answer!

    The pre-cats can be removed and will help spool up the turbos even earlier. You need to keep the main cats in place for the MOT, but these can be replaced with sports cats (either 100 or 200 cell).

    Unless you plan on going above 350bhp you will be ok with a generic map.

    The main problem with these engines is that they suffer from a number of common problems which don't bring on the engine management light - they are;

    1) failing MAFs
    2) split DV's
    3) Boost leaks
    4) Failed lambda probes

    You will be better off getting it to a specialist who knows these cars to get it running corrctly before mapping.

    You can try Dan at TRD on 01453 766739.

    Hope that helps.
