    Hi,
    I just bought an RCD 200 MP3 head unit off fleebay for my other halfs 2002 Golf Tdi. I managed to get it working ok but you had to enter the security code everytime you first turned the ignition on. Now I think she has pressed some wrong buttons or something because when turning the ignition on it comes with the message 'SAFE' as it used to but it now has a number 2 in the bottom left corner of the display. Where it used to come up with the '0000' for you to enter the code after about 3 or 4 secs it now does nothing. It just stays on the SAFE screen and it doesnt matter what you do press it wont do anything. Can anyone tell me if we have completely ballsed it up or if I can fix this.
    Thanks
    Chris

    Try leaving the radio on for an hour before entering the code,not too sure but i think the 2 means you have attempted to enter a code twice,again not too sure but if you enter the wrong code the third time,the unit must be unlocked by the manufacture

    Thanks for that. It worked. I was leaving it for an hour but not leaving it powered up because I am stupid. I just need to work out how to set it up so that I dont have to put the code in every time its switched on. Any ideas?

    Hi there

    I have the same problem; I bought a second hand rcd 200 mp3 player and when I turn the ignition off it will stay on but the second I remove the key from the barrel, it turns off. Then just as you stated, when I start the engine again I need to manually turn it on and it needs the code entered every time.

    Is there a way to turn "safe mode" off?

    Thanks in advance for any help with this.

    I recently added to this querey with the same problem and I think I have the answer;

    I just spoke over the phone with a VW service rep and his solution to this problem would be to have the stereo battery replaced. They have batteries to retain memory for when they are next switched on aswell as using power from the car battery. For me this makes sense as I purchased mine from a VW dismantlers therefore, the stereo was most probably sitting in storage and the battery has eventually deteriorated rendering it useless.

    I am going to have mine replaced and fingers crossed, if all goes well I will let you know if this resolves our problem!

    never heard of such a thing as an extra battery for the stereo,the reason the unit looses the memory is that it is wrongly connected,i think there is something wrong with the permanent live wire
