My nephew went medieval on my glovebox and it smashed at the lower left hinge. I have tried sealing it with the strongest glue possible but it just won't work. Can anyone give me any advice on getting a new one or any other options I have have. Audi will no doubt rip me off for a new one!

What kind of cost am I looking at? I intend to reapir it one way or the other.

Had same problem with A4 glovebox.

    Solution was:
1 remove the glovebox lid by pressing out the roll pins in both hinges
2 position the broken hinge on to the glovebox lid
3 align the parts and drill pilot hole through both parts
4 drill clearance hole trhrough the hinge part
5 apply ABS cement at the broken interface and join using a self- tapping screw

Repair was 6 months ago and it is still OK.

I've had and have still got the same problem. It is caused by a piston mechanism sticking. this is located on the side of the box behind the facia panel and provides the slow opening feature and the light connection. I found my hinge was seized shut because of this bloody thing!

I also used really strong glue but it soon snapped off again. Removal of the piston i think is vital to future success!

Yes as the piston is stuck in the closed position so there is an open circuit.

Interesting, on mine nothing is broken but.... I've had the glove box out a few times without issue but now when I open it, it doesn't drop slowly down. Could the damping piston seize thus not allowing the glove box cover to open smoothly?

This is one of the most frequent problems on B6 & B7 models. The damper gradually dries out, and the extra pressure on the hinge eventually causes it to break. To prevent it, unclip the side trim panel on the passenger side end of the dash. This gives you easy access to the damper, which you should then lubricate with silicon spray. Open and close the glovebox to ensure the silicon works back and forth along the piston. Do this every six months or so, and the damper should remain smooth and well lubricated, and fingers crossed the hinge won't break.

If the hinge does break, then there various threads on Audisport.Net on how to repair it. Here's just one of many from the B6 forum there.

Just concerned about the wires running through the hinge.
Do I need to deactivate the air bag?

I'm pretty certain that wire is for the glovebox light
