Has anyone had ice formation on the inside of the front windscreen. After having Eos which suffered from this and I got rid of it I am annoyed to find the same thing happening with my new Golf. Please advise.

you can stop this by keeping it in a garage. unfortunately when its really cold, condensation freezes on glass. not really a lot you can do about it.

Suffered with this problem on Polos and Golfs I owned but oddly never had this problem on my wife's Beetles.

A colleague smeared a solution of 'Rain-X' on the inside of his windsceen and said it prevents ice from forming.

Never had this problem in any car - not even the OH's Jazz.

However, the anti-fog RainX on the inside has caused freezing on the inside as the condensation sits there.

Ice on the inside of the screen is obviously caused by excessive humidity in side the car. Aircon will remove the moisture, driving with the recirculate button switched on makes it worse..

Never had this with any of my cars whether with air con or not. I always use air con when fitted. Drove the golf for over 100 miles when it was -12'C back in january, parked it up overnight and only frost on outside. Have left the car for almost a week when even day temps were barely above freezing and not had issues. Check all the windows are fully closed, all carpets dry and no water in the boot and spare wheel well.

But as we all know the Aircon will NOT function if external temperature is below about 3 degrees C and so that would not help reduce humidity in the car once warm.

True, although my a/c light stays on suggesting its still operating even at -12'C outside ?

The reason i get this is due to the humidity in the car, ie... wet/damp floor mats from shoes, wet jacket on the back seat of car, or damp seats.. (from when you get into tjhe car with a wet jacket on etc..)

The only and best way to do it, get the car upto running temp, heaters on FULL blast HOT, put the blowers on to FEET, CENTRE VENTS and SCREEN and leave it for a while, while driving... or on your drive if safe to do so.. OR... one thing i have done in the past.. put a dehumidifier on the backseat of the car, put it in the garage and leave it running over night..

OR.... Just wait till summer :-)

The light may be on but the compressor isn't working otherwise it would be damaged, I believe. Someone, somewhere gave a perfectly reasoned explanation of this might I can't remember the science behind it.
It may have been on honestjohn's backroom forum although their's is down at the moment.
