I really like having cruise control, especially for the long sets of 50mph with average speed cameras on the M4 - can concentrate on the road instead of the speedo.
Last Monday I went to accelerate using the stalk and the function went away completely - no indicator light in the speedo, no response from moving the stalk or the button.
I pulled off the motorway, turned off the engine, withdrew the key, replaced it, started, rejoined the motorway and tried the cruise - it worked!

Exactly the same thing happened today. Maybe it is a fan of the Boom Town Rats (showing my age)?

Clearly I need to get it to a dealer, but has anyone seen similar behaviour?

The thought of cruise control going faulty is scary. Get it checked

Well I haven't got to a dealer yet, and it happened again today and at exactly the same place as the first occurrence - when coming out of the 50mph limit west of Cardiff and attempting to accelerate. This is getting spooky - 3 Mondays in 4, and twice on the M4 right next to Audi Cardiff at Cardiff Gate junction!

On my previous BMW, the cruise control would be turned off by the car if the ESP (or DSC as they call it) was used, so could it be possible that the traction control or something kicked in?
Current car: B9 S4 in MisanoRed, driver assistance, light & vision, advanced key, hill hold, heated front/rear seats, memory seats/mirrors, flat bottomed wheel, piano black inlays, rear view camera and rear side airbags.
Gone: B8 S4 in BrilliantRed with TechPackHigh, Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Airbags & TPMS and also gone B8 A4 1.8TFSI SE

Good suggestion, and maybe in an S4, but I should have thought that increasing the cruise control speed while doing 53mph in 6th, in a TDi 143, on a dry road, would probably not trouble the ESP

As the original post, this isn't just disengaging the cruise, it is preventing me from using it at all until I have turned the engine off and restarted...

I had the same problem about 6 months ago - took car into Cardiff Audi and the fault was logged on the car's systems but they didn't have a solution. Was told to keep an eye on it! Anyway it hasn't happened again since..... must be something weird about cars travelling past Cardiff Audi

I am sitting in Swansea Audi while they take a look at the Cruise Control.
While I was here, I thought I would be cheeky and ask whether they could enable the N/S Mirror Dip when in Reverse, and the beep when you lock the car. The Master Tech happened to be next to the Service Reception person, and said that neither of these things was possible... I must have misunderstood those VCDS posts here...

    EDIT:
    I just showed them post 149 from Audi A4 B8 - VAG.com Tricks
"I got this done today and what they did was great but i was late to the garage so i forgot my list and only got The - Speedo done, rear drls, reverse mirror dip, seat belt chime, hazard braking so i forgot loads like The - Blip on lock,TPMS,hidden menu and the garage is going to charge me another £47 to put them on"

And they told me that it would be illegal for them to do this! I said "Illegal?!" and she said against German law.

My cruise has stopped working today. It was fine yesterday. Will get it in to the dealer this week to see if any faults logged and get it looked at.

The verdict on mine was that they could see that a fault had occurred, but the error code was showing as zeros or hyphens or <blank> or something equally unhelpful. They took it out for a test drive and of course it didn't happen for them.
They said to bring it back if it happened again. Given that I have 3 examples of the failure logged and the error codes are still not helpful, I am not sure why the 4th occurrence should suddenly tell them the answer. It could be something to do with the clutch position sensor or the brake light switch. I asked whether they would replace one of these and they said that the part would have to be returned to Germany, and if found not to be faulty, then the dealer would have to pay (so they wouldn't do it).
    Not very satisfactory.
