    Hello

New post by new forum member so please be patient!

My A3 Sportback 1.9 Special Edition 57 plate is demonstrating two annoying habits and I suspect they are not altogether unconnected. I intend to raise with the main dealer however some opinions would be most welcome. Symptoms as follows:

    1. When starting from cold the radio cuts out as the automatic door locking kicks in (when slowing down / stopping) It then boots up again without any prompting but with the volume back at the default level.

    2. Despite having windows closed and air vents closed off the alarm has gone off over the past few evenings (and i really don't think this is due to anyone interfering with the vehicle) It may be related to the cold in some way I just don't know. I do wonder whether this indicates its a connection misbehaving?

Other things to note. I've also now noticed that if I turn the radio off it will turn itself back on when the aurto door locking kicks in - almost a reverse of point 1.

    Thanks in anticipation!

The grease used in the ignition switch dries out and hence these faults occur because the S contact makes and breaks.Very common and a new switch is required which has the correct grease to prolong the life of the switch.
As for the alarm i would check the last trigger via vag com in address 46 then it may indicate the tail gate micro switch.
If you wish to, remove the tail gate trim and disconnect the switch on the lock and monitor
