    Hi... Am unsure which sort of engine oil I should buy for my 1.6TDI... On the cap it says it recommends Castrol, but don't know what type.. what does anyone else use? I'm quite low so need to buy some ASAP!

    You will need longlife oil because it has a DPF

    Yes they gave me a litre for topping up this week, Castrol 5w/30. I believe its not cheap at Ł18 a litre.
    2010 Golf GTD (170) CBBB, 5 Door, Shadow Blue (P6/D5Q), Flat Tyre Indicator, Basic Protection Pack + VCDS.

    Suppose I should really check the oil in mine too. I'll most likely check with my local garage what to put in it just in case...

    Longlife top up oil from the local dealer near me it's about Ł15 for a litre

    Yes I don't know the actual price I was talking to one of the guys at work who has a Golf and he had to buy some from an Audi dealer last year and it was Ł18 a litre.

    If you have a DPF fitted then you will need an oil that meets the VW507.00 spec and these are 5w-30.

    All of these are approved http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-754-vw-50700-oil.aspx

    Halfords have 5 litres of Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil
    on offer for Ł39.99 thats only Ł8 per litre - seems a very good deal
