I took off full functional Chorus II and replaced it with Concert II device.

The swap was very straight forward, it took only few minutes and I got radio and cd player working.

    But...

For some reason the Concert II does not switch on and off prior to car key position. It can only be powered on and off by pushing Volume button.

However backlights of the Concert are working ok -> so it does matter if car's lights are on or off and also the dispaly is dimming together with other instrument lights.

Also a bit wierd thing is that VCDS does not see the Concert II device at all ! So I'm not able to tune any parameters from 'Radio-56' module. Chorus II was responding ok to VCDS and 'Radio-56' was available.

Neither DIS is showing the name of the radio channel -> this was also working with old player.

So please, what could be the 'root cause' and any advices how to fix ?

Should I tune some other instrument parameter (by VCDS) to recognize Concert II corretly, or is there possibility that the CAN-interface is broken from the player (baklight/dimming is however working ok...)?

Check code and check K wire also check S contact recognition for off/on
Leave the dash alone as its already enabled from previous radio over the infotainment can, your issues are all in the radio and vcds will communicate over the Kwire for this and can is for data like dis etc

I'm 'a bit Audi newbie', so few extra questions...

    - What code are you referring to ?
    - Do you mean physical/electrical contact bw Concert II and car wiring harness ?
    - How can I check S contact recognition... ? And actually what is 'S contact'...

    Thanks in advance !

If you cant see the radio address 56 in vcds then check the Kwire position on the multi plug for the radio as k wire is the diagnostic comms wire for this model.
S contact is the postion in the ignition barrel when the key is first inserted which takes on the role of supply 15 for ceratin consumers like radio so it supplies the on/off at the key.
Mvb in address 16 and 56 should show its operation but for more I would have to look.
You can only check the encoding of the radio once Kwire comms are established to encode the functionality of the radio ie with or with out bose etc

On the upper part of the radio there is a pin out diagram showing all pin locations and functions, check the K wire position and move if required for correct position
I suspect this unit is from a A3 group vehicle where as B7 is a Audi platform vehicle so pin locations may differ

Unfortunately no break through, so far... but thanks for help & advices!

Wiring stickers are identical (Chorus II vs Concert II) and physical connector & pin placement are also identical.

I tried also to change back the Chorus, and yes it's working still 'perfectly'.

Could it be that K-line (and maybe Can-bus also) are damaged in Concert ?

Ex-owner has tried to fit it to older Audi (A8_D2) -> can this cause these connection/communication errors ?

And finally I have tried to find internal wiring diagram (schematics) and/or service/repair manual from internet for Concert II but have not managed, at least so far...

Any good hints where to look ?

One idea is to change the 'whole' connector panel module from Chorus to Concert (if for example some ESD protector has blown). More simplier might to check first that there are no 'cold solderings' in Concert's connector panel/module.

if the pin outs are the same then what is the part number of the unit as you say its from a A8 d2 platform.Me thinks that's your problem, differing RADIO TYPE and not compatable with B7

It's not from A8, but the ex-owner of the Concert have tried to fit it to old A8, but with no luck. That's the reason why he was selling this unit...

The excact type of the device is Audi Concert 8PO 035 186 C. The manuf date of the device is week29_year2005 so it should work & communicate with B7, if not faulty unit.
