Right further to my recent post regarding my 1.9 TDI 54 Plate being down on power and making a squealing noise my worst fears have been realised the garage next door to work have quoted £1000 plus VAT for a new turbo fitted 2 year warenty or £7775plus VAT Fitted for my turbo to be rebuilt. Are these fair prces??

Anyone know of any where in the Halesowen west midlands area I could try??

There are half a dozen internet firms offering service exchange reconditioned turbos for £350-£700. TurboTecnics springs to mind, but there are plenty more. These generally come with a year's warranty. Last time I had a turbo on and off it cost me £70 for labour.

Asssuming that your £7775 is a typo and you meant £775, this is in the range but it is worth shopping around. If the £1000 is for a genuine, brand new, straight from VW turbo then this doesn't look too bad. You can always phone the parts department to find out the retail price and assume another £50-100 for labour. Whatever way you go, make sure the price includes a new oil feed pipe connector, since these tend to get blocked with crud and it might be why your original failed.

I did lots of riningin round and found out a local VAG indpendant who I know and trust could do it for £710 plus VAT so they are doing it In fact they have rung while typing thais at it's ready needed a new oil pick up point £869.09 inc VAT (new turbo) so I'm happy with that. Will let you know if all is ok after driving the car
