    Hi people,

I wonder if someone could help. I have recently purchased a used VW Golf 1.9 TDi (automatic DSG) '55 plate from a VW dealer. I noticed the other day that my foot felt a bit wet in the pedal area. Maybe its me being paranoid but someone mentioned coolant could be leaking in the drivers side footwell from above the pedal area ?

Could someone more technically knowledgeable please help me. I was under the impression the heater core is connected via two hoses from behind the centre console that go straight into the firewall, not above the pedal area, or on the driver's side. Therefore, would'nt it be impossible for coolant to leak below the steering rack and onto the pedal area / foot ???

Excuse me from my lack of knowledge. VW want £95 to have a look at the vehicle !!!!!, and were very unhelpful

    Regards

    Nick

Take it back and get them to fix it under the warranty.
Have you had to top-up the coolant, you might not be losing any, the water could be
rain getting in or the aircon drain running into the car.

Funny enough I got the warranty booklet today through the post. Will try to explain I've still got a years warranty

I'm sure it can't be a coolant leak though. Coolant hoses don't run below the steering wheel (drivers side), they go straight through the firewall, no ???

it could be a heater maxtrix leak and the coolant is running down into the foot well?

Are you sure its coolant ??

Could be a block drain point?

    Cheers

    Rick

Yep, someone else mentioned plenium drains. Will have a look for blockages.

I still see it being a coolant leak though. Did some research and the heater matrix is connected behind the centre console with both connections to hoses going through the centre part of the firewall, therefore, there can't be coolant leaking from above the pedal areas under the steering section from what I understand, it would be impossible, no ?

If its a coolant leak you would be topping up, or at least get a low coolant warning....

Ahhhh, just remembered, I had a new screen fitted and had a leak in the pedal area, took the car back to the screen place to have it checked, the screen was OK !!
Took the car to a garage and they found that the seal on the fuse box was not seated correctly. I had to get a new seal and box as Audi had changed the design of the base.

Also to check for leaks, run a hose on the screen drivers side and seeif any water runs inside the car around the pedals....

    UPDATE,

Right, car went to the local VW dealer. Within 3 hours they called to say the screen was not sealed correctly from inside ??? They have to take the whole screen out and replace it, costing £75.00, apparently its not covered by the warranty.

However, since its been washed I noticed no water in the pedal area from the car wash. It is'nt a coolant leak as there are no coolant hoses that go anywhere near beneath the steering wheel and pedal area. Apparently the heater core is right against the firewall and there is a short connection into the firewall to the engine compartment on the passengers side.

Only other thing it could be is a screen wash hose leak ?? Anyway they are doing further checks just to confirm it is the screen. Whatever it is, looks like it won't be covered by warranty.
