Hi all, not sure where to post this so apologies if its in the wrong place, I took my car (MKIV Golf GTI 1.8T 150 bhp) for an MOT to Kwik Fit (i know!), car failed on registration plate bulb, steering arm, air freshener?????, crack in windscreen and emissions. I took the car to my local garage, had all the necessary work done and had the emissions checked, they were fine. I took it back to Kwik Fit for the re-test and guess what they failed it on emissions again when there was nothing wrong with it. I then took my car back to my local garage to have another MOT which guess what, it passed on everything including emissions. How can my car pass 2 emissions tests at one garage and fail twice at Kwik Fit? Surely they're taking the mick and doing something to the test to make it fail or not warming the car up before they do it or MOT Testers are just crap. Im thinking of asking them to compensate me for the £45 i had to pay for another MOT when the emissions were clearly fine at the time of the re-test?

possibly a case that one of the emission testers requires calibrating. i would suggest contacting vosa for their advice. obviously you may not be the only one caught out. i highly doubt it is malicious on the part of kwik fit. it could even be the other garages tester?. do you have the print outs for both the pass and the fail.
just noticed air freshener- what was that all about???

anything hanging from a rear view mirror is a fail, as it is in the drivers line of sight.
did kwik fit test the car when up to running temp? personally i would call vosa and have a chat with them about it. i would say that one of the testers is faulty or needs calibrating.
