My B5.5 had the stock halgoens when I first got it and upgrading to the OEM Xenon's was the first major change I made. I can say there is a drastic difference in light output compared to the halogen, however I don't feel they are as bright as some of the newer cars (my Mk5 R32 had better light output), I suspect because of the age / technology involved.

Switching out the bulbs sounds like it may be a step in the right direction, I've been running the Philips 4300k and have been very happy with them.

Either will be fine as long as you get the correct fitting. Our data goes up to 2001 and lists a D2S however I would advise just checking that this is correct. Our Sister company has a few options in this size and they can be found in the following link,

    http://www.hids4u.co.uk/d2s-bulbs-c-23.html

As you will see we don't have the Philips bulbs available but we do have 2 types of Osram bulbs and our own upgrade. The Osram Cool Blue bulbs are rated at 5000K and will give a whiter light than the stock 4100K. Our own 6000K bulbs will give an even whiter light with a slight blue tint to them. If you want more info on the colour temps please see the following link,

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the info guys,
Will probably order a set of philips ones, just because I want the most light I can get and see where we go from there.
Have vagcom as well so should be able to check and adjust the beam pattern roughly.

    Hi guys,
    just an update
Fitted new philips 4300k bulbs and had beam pattern set by vw.

Lights are definately brighter and better focused. However not as good as modern HID. Must be due to the technology, but am satisfied that they have at least improved.

    Thanks for your help
