  1. t4 - cuts out after few seconds

hi all - I'm having trouble with my t4 (2001 2.5L TDI). It starts normally but cuts out after a few seconds as if its not getting fuel. All the electrics seem to work fine (dash lights etc). The little red light next to the key flashes continuously but has done so since a bought the van a few weeks ago (i.e. even when the car was running).

It doesn't sound like the ignition key as all the other things work - maybe something to do with the immobiliser or stop solenoid?

    any ideas ??

    thanks, marc

I think there is a fault with the immobilizer, but you really need a fault code read

ok - VW had a look and couldn't find a fault however -

The vcds couldn't talk to the ECU - it jumped straight to the immo and airbag and suggested that the ECU is cactus....(AU$3044).

Does this mean the ECU is faulty?

anyway vw were good but couldn't commit to the ECU - neither can i until i try all the possible issues -

The ECU's on these vehicles are very reliable, having said that there is always a first time, but i have never experienced any faults with them. You need to check the power supply to the ECU ( Terminal 30 voltage supply relay) ,and if you have an aftermarket radio, remove the radio contact, see then if you can access the ECU.Was there not a fault code from the immobilizer

    kenney -

No immo fault code. keys are fine also (checked by VW dealer)

Can you pls explain what you mean by 'radio contact' and access ECU - I did replace the aftermarket radio which was in the car but it was with the same type (Pioneer) which was already in there - the (modified) plug fit straight into the new radio - having said that these issues at the same time..

re access the ECU - do you mean the computer in front of the battery or the immo behind the dash?

    thanks

Remove the plug to the new radio,When i say access or enter the ECU it is a term used it means communication between the ECU and the dignostic tool

well we checked everything (fuses, switches, plugs, relays etc etc) - after we cleaned and replugged the plugs on the data bus at relay 5 and hasn't stopped since....they take signal between the immo and the ECU - the terminals are very small.....

thanks for your support and ideas.

we are starting our trip on sunday - 2 people, 1 baby, a vw transporter and a really big continent!!

Same fault on a recently bought T4 camper 1996, petrol, automatic. Engine runs for about one second then cuts. ECU code reader says 'Engine Control blocked' but does not say why. Have searched for loose wires, dirty contacts, blown fuses, to no avail
I had driven the camper to a garage for a tune and general going over, parked up as normal and went off to work. I received a call later from the garage to say 'What's the secret to starting your camper'? They nor I can start it so it hasn't moved now for over two weeks. With the threat of expensive main agent Gilders I would really appreciate any help or advice anyone can offer.
    Thank You,
    Joe.
