When I insert the key into the ignition of my A4 TDIse and turn the key the abs and esp lights stay on. The engine management light and heater plug lights do not. If you turn the key to start the car it tries to fire up but will not start. If you leave the ignition in the on position for roughly 20 to 30 seconds the em light and heater plug light will kick in, the car will then start. I have had the car to an independent Audi specialist. The following codes from the VAG machine.

    2 Faults found
18258 Powertrain Data Bus missing message from ecu p1850 -35-10 intermittent,

    1 fault found
01314 Engine control module 49-10- No communications intermittent

They are not sure why this is happening, Please Help

I have just had some problems with warning lights and my battery discharging, its taken me a long time and a lot of trouble.an indepandant garage and even the Audi garage. In the end it was water damage to some relays in the ecu box.The relays were sending strange messages, replaced them and hey presto problem solved.
Check for water damage and corroded relays and wires.

abs and esp lights is usually an indication that your brake light switch has broken or both brake lights have blown, get someone to check they are working, hope it is this as it is relatively easy and cheap to repair

Another check would be that your cars' battery is not on it's way out.
A low battery can show signs similar due to a low voltage spike.
Did you get hold of Crasher? I think you need to have 10 posts to use the PM function,if so re-title a new post along the lines ATTENTION CRASHER etc etc ,he WILL sort you in an instant

latest is the brake lights are stuck on but i dont think its the brake switch if you unplug the switch take the brake light fuse out or turn off the ignition and lock the car the lights are still on (must be a volvo) but i will try and look at it tomorrow
