What service plan are you on? Fixed or Variable(Life Long)?

Hi there. I too would like to know.

I think mine is on a variable...last time I checked.

Apart from stating on the invoice how would I know?

After the Service indicator reset after Audi serviced the car it says a certain number of miles to the next service and this changes depending on driving style or something... this is variable right?

Which is the best oil for a variable servicing Audi?

On the Halfords website it says Variable Or Fixed.. If you click on either the SAME OIL IS SHOWN. So the oil isn't different for the 2 service intervals..they are the same?

Mobil 1 ESP 5W/30 4L = £46.99
Castrol Edge 5W30 Oil 4 litre = £44.99

Would the Mobil be better..I'm assuming it is due to higher price..correct me if I am wrong.. if Audi recommend Castrol I shall buy that..

I think its fixed if the countdown timer thing starts from 10,000 miles. Im not sure about where the variable starts but im sure its over 10,000.

That oil I linked was for variable servicing.

I have only bought the reccommended oil (Castrol)
If you put your reg. number into this, it will tell you what suits your car best from Castrol

Just noticed that and I also used that Castrol site and it told me that my car was on the variable service, which it is. Audi definitely reccommend Castrol as im quite sure it says in the owners handbook or its printed somewhere in the engine bay.

Depends if your car is a 2.0 TDI PD or a CR (common rail). Also depends whether you car has a DPF fitted or not. And of course as mentioned whether you're on fixed (10k or 12 months) or variable servicing.

The Castrol supplied in the link could be right, but until the above information is provided it can't be guranteed.

forgive my ignorance but i really dont know. last time i checked it gaveme like 628 days to next service

so am not sure. i think its the variable one.

Yep you're on variable. I think 2008 was when the CR was introduced, so the year of your car would help.

All that remains then is to find out if your car has a DPF (diesel particulate filter) fitted to the exhaust.

A healthy TDI should be a little smokey/sooty (black smoke, not blue or grey!). However, if your TDI on modern VAG vehicles produces next to no smoke at all, it's likely to have a DPF fitted.

But the easiest way would be to ring the dealer and ask them, they can enter your reg number into their ETKA system and tell you.
