Hi folks, I had my car in at the garage and they said that my hub nut is loose. (i replaced the both inner and out cv joints as the outer had worn and i let the drive shaft drop and therefor i killed the top bearing.) They re torqued the nut and said it was pretty loose. 2-4 Months later and i am getting a knocking noise when turning so i am guessing CV Joint again. So I have three questions:

    1. Would a loose hubnut contribute to an outer CV joint to fail?

    2. I followed the Haynes Manual for the Torqueing proceedure but VWVortex mentions just torqueing up to 175nm being adaquate. I followed the haynes method and it came loose so i dont know what to trust

3 Do i need to get a realignment if i remove the bottom ball joint (Not splitting but taking out the 3 bolts)

    As always any help appreciated!

It should not make the CV fail, are you sure the noise is the CV?

well the noise is only apparant when i have a passenger in the car. I have changed the CV Joint and the noise is still there. I go around the same roundabout twice once with a passanger and once without. Without the passenger i cant really hear it. So it appears to be weight orientated but not the CV. Any Ideas?

Yes, the loose nut has destroyed the wheel bearing.

I changed the wheel bearings about 2 months ago. Could it really destroy them that fast? I suppose it will just get noisier with time.

If the hut nut comes loose, it can destroy the wheel bearing just putting the car on the floor, there are warnings about it in the workshop manual.

A front hub nut is meant to be...what we call in the industry... FT (effing tight) lol, when you tightened up the hub nut, did you punch in the locking lug ...like a V shaped cut out where you punch it in toward the stub axle to stop it coming un done??

No you shouldnt need a re-alignment done, unless a recent alignment has been carried out with the failed ball joint on the vehicle??
