My GT has the 130 motor & I am thinking of remap to 170/190.
Three questions - does any one know whether the standard fitted DSG is happy to take the increased output?
And - has anyone 'played' with their mapping on this engine with good result? If so, can you recommend a supplier/fitter?

A GTI owner had his DSG remapped by REVO to around 260bhp, and other than a short period where the DSG had to relearn the power delivery (resulting in less smooth shifts), then no issues.

I'd look at the REVO claims for the torque on the GTI 2.0TFSI engine and use that as a potential maximum figure. It's the torque figure you have to be wary of in terms of gearbox protection. Its not all about big numbers !

Editted to say - i found another thread from a 1.4TSI 160 owner who had his DSG 7 speed car 'bluefinned' - superchips reckoned 250nm was the max torque for the gearbx. However, given that the std TDI140 engine is 238ftlbs/320NM i guess they meant 250ftlbs max, not 250Nm max !!

Good info Percymon - (Yes you are right, my motor is a 140 not 130!)
238 to 250 isn't much of a torque increase so is it really worth the bother. Or could this refer just to the 7 speed. Could the 6 speed be a stronger box or are they basically the same. May be an email to Superchips would give me a clue.

The 6-speed is a stronger box — the 7-speed can't reliably handle the TDI's torque.

Idle is correct, keep the torque to around 400Nm and you should be perfectly OK.

If you are interested in having your Golf remapped, then we can do this at our base in Mansfield and soon our STS unit will support it too

I've heard that you can remap the TDi from 140 to 195. You could go more but the gearbox can't stand the extra torque. The same goes for the DSG box. Also the clutch doesn't last as long. You can get uprated clutches but these are very expensive.

I think 195bhp is somewhat optimistic, particularly if you like your turbo and injectors.

Thanks shark 90. So what kind of figures (bhp / torque) would you (safely) remap to for the 6 sp DSG?

Our website is out of date (that's nearly a full time job in itself!!) and so the Mk6 details aren't on there yet, however you'd be looking at 175bhp and 400Nm torque.
