ok. so im really interested in teh golf mark 6 but coming from much bigger cars and with a caravan and a family we prefer the estate so we get a decent sized boot. I compared the two cars and not that from the A=pillar backwards the estate looks like a mark 5 - the door handles (exterior and interior) are the "old ones" and the door panels are from the mark 5. what is weird is that the front end is the same and the interior is identical apart from the door panels.

i a reading about teh advances in refinement and less noise from the mark 5 to mark 6 and wondering where the estate will sit. its doesnt have the same edging trim at the windscreen / a-pillar interface. i am wondering if wind noise and refinement will be closer to the mark 5 than the mark 6.

I have driven the estate briefly and plan a longer drive but wondered if anyone had any technical knowledge on the differences and also why the estate is not the same - its not like they have just tarted up the inside like with the jetta as its got the new mark 6 dashboard (but curiously without the driver's knee airbag)

im all confused - i want the latest model but need the space of the estate - help !

You are correct .... the new Mk6 Golf Estate is near identical to Mk 5 apart from the dashboard, steering wheel, front/rear bumper and headlamps/grille - they even share the same door mirrors..... another example of VW cost cutting In some ways you will be driving the latest model with the MK6 having a newer engine and suspension set up.

    Mk 6

    Mk 5

do we know if the mk6 estate does have the same suspension tweeks that the mk6 hatch has got ?
also i wonder if it has got better soundproofing than the outgoing estate. I drove a jetta which is a mark5 and the ride was harder and the noise greater than the mk6 estate.

what a really want is a proper mark6 but with a bigger boot. I guess the estate will not be changed to a proper mark 6. maybe the new jetta , due out in 2010 sometime will be a proper mark 6 - anyone know?
