Looking for recommendations on headlight bulbs (not ready to upgrade to HIDs yet). I put some blue vision bulbs in a few months ago and they were alright but could be better I thinks. I have put them in the wifes car and they seem brighter which I think could be down to the caps on the Passats headlights. Any experiences good or bad wou;d be welcome. Ta

I fitted a pair of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PHILIPS-BLUEVI...item3ca711ea8d and they do make a noticable difference, just make sure that when you fit them you get the holder back in right or the beam will be wrong, it's fiddly.

I like Ring bulbs - I have tried and can recommend the following:

Ring Ultra Xenon - quite old now (but I was being followed by my old car the other day and was surprised how bright they were).
The latest bulb from Ring is Xenon Max which I have in the main beams and are very good.

I have Philips X-Treme Power bulbs in the dipped beam (because they got good reviews) which are a definite improvement on the standard VW bulbs but since they haven't blown yet I can't say if they are any better than anything else but when they do go I will probably go for the Ring Xenon Max's in the dipped as well so I can do a comparison.
I've got a coffee theme going here...

Looking at the auto express reviews might give the philips x-treme power a whirl.

hi m8 I purchased a set of "H7 Philips X-treme Power +80% bulbs 12V 55W" (VW Passat B6 2.0TDi sport) from autobulbs and have to say they are excellent, the car had some low energy things in that were useless.
I had looked at either HID or the philips but decided that with my luck I would put the HID's and stopped by the police, so i went for the philips, and glad i did.
There are a few threads about this elsewhere in the forum.

Forgot to mention I got them from here http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/H7-...ulbs-pair.html and chose the blue side light free offer, One of my work m8's says when looking at the lights in his rear view mirror they appear to be a bit blueish similar to the HID's on hisn A4 s-line.
You might find them cheaper elsewhere, but i found them great to deal with.
P.s make sure you check the other threads about changing the bulbs the can be a bit awkward, it helps if you have a small mirror, a torch and small hands.
I also found that it was easier to change the side light through the wheel arch ( just undo the liner and go in that way).

I changed my bulbs just after I bought the Passat as I thought they were rubbish!

I ended up spending around £60 as i fitted the Philips X-treme Power to low and high beams and to complete the 'look' (not a real concern but they were free) a pair of white light side lights - all sourced from PowerBulbs.

I am convinced that there is a notable difference and driving down unknown single track B roads can be done with more confidence.

The prices have probably dropped now as I got them about a year ago but even if they haven't, I couldn't recommend them highly enough. They're grrrrreat!

Agree they do look a lot better but without automatic headlamp leveling and headlamp wash they are not legal im afraid.
