    Hi there,
I want to install the above bluetooth kit in my 2008 2.0 tdi passat.Has anyone attempted to do this? At the moment I am trying to source a connector to hook-up the audio and mute from the bluetooth kit to the rcd-310 stereo connections at the rear of the stereo. Would it be ok to take the power feed for the kit from the stereo, or will this create can-bus issues?
    Thanks

    Hi,

I've done the install with the newer version of the nokia car kit.

The best thing to do is to go to your VW dealer and get some "repair leads".

I can't remember the exact part numbers but these are basically a yellow wire with a connector at each end.

You will need 2 of the leads that have the fuse box type connector in it and 1 lead which will have connectors to fit the back of the stereo.

you may also need the green "block" that goes onto the wiring loom at the rear of the stereo.

These are all fairly cheap and should cost no more than £10.

I will try and post part numbers later.

What you want to do is take out the radio and glove box. you can fit the car kit "brain" to the left/right/underneath the radio in the little compartments. From there you can route the power (permanent and switched live) to the fuse box on the passenger side. Using the connectors mentioned above you can utilise the cars own fuse box.

Ground can be picked up somewhere behind the dash.

for the mute and sound you will need to make connections behind the stereo, the points that you need to connect at are clearly marked on the label stuck on the radio unit.

The best method is to cut the supplied speaker cable and connect to ph+ and ph-. I think the red wire in the speaker cable or the black one with the white stripe goes to ph+. you will have one or the other, not both.

The microphone can be routed up to the A-pillar or for a neat job can be installed into the designated position.

Some info can be found here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4084743

the installation is on a golf with the volk L system but the basics are there.

I have just sourced and ordered a direct input lead from nexxans. It allows you to get a power supply from the stereo supply for the bluetooth kit. It also connects the audio from the bluetooth kit through the front speakers of the stereo. Hope it works. http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_kit_inst...volkswagen.htm

Which lead did you go for? Did you actually speak to Nexxia or just order from the website? Unless something has changed with those leads in the year since i was doing this, they won't provide switched power to the ck7w and it will therefore drain your battery. The problem is those leads are not specific to Volkswagen, they are used in other vehicles too (my old BMW used the same lead) and the descriptions of the leads on the website are generic, not specific to the application of a particular lead in a particular vehicle. There is no switched power at the back of the VW stereo, it switches on via the canbus system, so although the lead has an input for switched live and an output to the switched live terminal on the ck7w, when it is plugged into the radio loom of the Passat these wires are connected to nothing!

You can get an adapter called 06SENSE http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_kit_inst...t_adaptors.htm which senses the ignition and provides switched power to the ck7w but I tried one of these and it was intermittent at best. To be fair to them they gave me a refund. The best and easiest thing to do is just connect the switched power input on the ck7w to a switched bus in the fusebox which is much easier to do than it sounds.

I eventually got a steering wheel button adapter which you piggyback on to the canbus wires at the back of the stereo - this bit of kit provides a switched positive supply which uses the same logic as the radio to detect ignition on/off events, so worked perfectly, but was expensive and not much use if you don't have a MFSW.

In the end, after I got it all integrated perfectly, I ripped it all out and put in the VW/Nokia OEM kit!!

Just reread my post and realised I hadn't made this clear: the lead you've ordered will still work in all other repects, you just have to deal with the switched power issue yourself.

Harty's right, ideally you need a switched live connected to the blue wire on the CK-7W. You can get it by dropping a lead down to the cigar lighter socket (scotchblock into the supply there) or else by finding an un-used ignition switched live at the fuse box and stuffing a spade into it. Either way, make sure you include a 1A fuse in-line.

Nokia say that you don't need it, because the kit will switch off autmatically after 2 minutes not connected to a phone. I found this to be a right old pain in the rrrrsss.

If you already have the Nokia kit, go ahead. If not, my recommendation is the Parrot 3000, together with the MutiCAN adapter which integrates perfectly with the MFSW buttons, if you have them. I've fitted both and the Parrot is miles in front.

What's worse is that when you turn the ck7w on via the switched live, it tries to connect to any paired phones. Inother words you get in the car, turn the ignition on, the ck7w comes on and searches for and connects to your phone. If the switched live isn't connected you have to tell your phone to connect to the ck7w each time you get in! Maybe this is the pain in the rrrsss you are referring to teflon?

If it turns off after two minutes of no device being connected, I don't understand how it ever turns on again - there is no switched supply to turn it on and it can't respond to a Bluetooth signal from your phone, because it's off! It must go into a low power mode or something but leaves its bluetooth radio powered on.
