hi please could somebody help me!

As mentioned above my car makes a sound much like a vacuum from under the bonnet when ignition turned off even after short drives. This would lead me to think the car is over heating....so i have checked the coolant levels which is all fine and the gage inside the car both for coolant level and car temperature is all fine. So not really sure what to make of it, all i know is that it doesnt sound healthy and its definately getting worse.

    Any ideas / tips???

turn engine off and lift bonnet. listen carefully and try to locate the noise. a length of rubber pipe pressed into the ear can help to pinpoint it. it could be a split vacuum pipe.which engine do you have?

What kind of noise exactly? A hissing (like an air/vacuum leak)? Or do you mean the noise sounds a bit like a vacuum cleaner? If it's the latter, it could be your cooling fan running on - a fairly common problem, cured by fitting a new twin fan/controller pack.

it really does sound like a vacuum cleaner : S!! Short of taking it to a garage and paying do you know how i could check if its this and if it was roughly how much would it cost to replace the twin fan/controller pack??

    thanks

Open the bonnet and you should be able to see if one (or both) of the cooling fans are running. If they are, and they switch off after a minute or two, it may be that nothing is wrong, although if this happens all the time and/or the fans do not switch off, it probably means that the fan controller is faulty.

If this is the case, unfortunately the controller cannot be replaced on its own - it comes as part of a kit to replace the twin fans. Cost of the fan pack is just over £200, plus the cost of fitting it - budget for around the £300 mark in total.
