Hi all, just changed my B5.5 to the beautiful B6 however i purchased from a fleet auction last Thursday. It's a 2005 2litre Tdi sport a lovely driver until it refused to start the next day. Put key into ignition and no lights come on the dash except flashing heater plug light and only eventually brings on lights after repeating this procedure over and over to only then to give up the engine fault garage message.Eventually after a few more tries it starts and drives perfectly. It has also cut out completly while driving. Phoned auction back in a panic to see if i had any warranty to which they said to get the car plugged in at a garage and find out a fault code and would try and sort. Did this and came up with the above code. They have since said today they are prepared to give £100 pounds toward the cost of the repair of the immobiliser. I am thinking this would only be a VW garage repair to which £100 wont go to far. Does anyone recognise this problem, what kind of cost etc....PLEASE HELP!!

17978/P1570/005488 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer
    Possible Symptoms
    Engine starting but stalling immediately
    Possible Causes
    Key(s) not matched
    Instrument Cluster not matched
Engine Control Unit (ECU) not matched
Engine Control Unit (ECU) Power Supply faulty
    Possible Solutions
Check for Fault Codes in Immobilizer itself (part of Instrument Cluster in many cars, but separate Immobilizer Control Module in some)
Check Immobilizer Measuring Values (usually in Instrument Cluster OR Immobilizer Control Module)
Match Key(s)/Instrument Cluster/Engine Control Unit (ECU)
Check Engine Control Unit (ECU) Power Supply (Relay)
    Special Notes
If no other immobilizer related fault codes are stored and the immobilizer related meas. blocks are fine except Engine Start not allowed, in rare occasions it helps to try cold-booting the car. Remove both battery cables from the battery. Short the battery cables together (away from the battery) for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery. (Example)

As you can see that code has a number of reasons.
A new key will set you back a bit and might not be the problem.
The reader coil in the ign. barrel have been known to fail.
Maybe get the car to a good independent garage for some more investigating...

Failure of the ignition key reader/socket is a known problem on the b6. You will have to take it to a dealer. They can do a complete read/set of the imobiliser which should tell you if the key socket is faulty. A good automotve locksmith can sort out the key if it is a key fault. Ask shark see if he can help.

Hi, apologies for dragging up an old post but I just wondering if you ever got this sorted as I'm experinecing exactly the same problems (i.e. car starts but then cuts out after a sec or so with the same fault code).

    Thanks ion advance.
