High Pitch Whistle

Hello,

I have a 2004 Audi A3 2.0 TDI.

Today I noticed a really high pitched whistle noise when I accelerate. It doesnt do it when i just rev the engine only when I drive, and seems to be only when I put my foot on the accelerator about a 1/4 way down. When i ge tto about 90 MPH it stops and if im put my foot only a little on the acceleratyor it doesnt make the noise either

Usually i have a whirling noise which is the turbo but today its started making a really high pitched whistle as well. I think its linked to the turbo but dont know alot about cars.

Anyone got any ideas?

hi,

it def sounds like the bearings in the turbo are on there way out. i to have had this problem but it might sound abit stupid, but was told to do an oil and filter change and make sure that the right oil is used for that engine. (should be Fully synthetic 5w-30) apparently the audi diesels are funny with which grade oil they have to have.as a result of this i no longer get the high pitch noise, so give it a try as it is always best to try the cheapest options first lol.

Thanks for your advice, my car is saying it needs to be serviced in 400 miles, maybe thats something to do with it.

I think I will get it serviced sooner and hopefully that will fix the issue.
