I have been looking for a IPOD and Bluetooth solution fo my mark 5 Golf GT TDI. I have an RCD300 and have been looking at the MKi9200.

I was in the dealer today and was asking about them. The guy I was speaking to said that they have had all sorts of problems from customers.

Has anyone had any problems with the MKi9200/rcd300 or was the guy at the dealer scaremongering?

Is the MKi the best solution with this head unit?

    Cheers

    Hi Buddy,

I've just installed the exact set up as described. the dealer is right and wrong. the software you get on the parrot has all sorts of issues in respect of iphones. however the latest update (1.21 i think) takes away all of the bugs and makes it an amazing piece of kit!

do shop around though (as Mr VW will bend you over for fitting this) and you can get it for lower than £150. you will also need the ISO adapter (part number SOT-976) for the head unit. this can be found on ebay for £10.

    Any problems just reply!

I always fit the Dension Gateway units which integrate with the cluster and either OE Bluetooth or a CK3100 seperately. Not had any experience with the iPod integrated Parrot stuff though.

the only parrot to have is the 3100, fitted hundreds of them an never get any problems, when we get customers asking for 3200's or higher we try and get them to have the touchscreen bury 9060, amazing piece of kit, simple to fit and never have problems with them, iphones aren't ideal with most bluetooth kits but it can always be done, blackberry's are a bit of a pain with some of the kits we fit, taking ages to syncronise with your address book etc.

Thanks to everyone for all of the info.... a few questions. ....

I am not looking to use an Iphone (well not at present). Planning to use either a Nokia 6500c or a Samsung somethingorother. and an old school ipod classic or nano for themusic. I prefer a small phone and a separate ipod as opposed to an all in one.

Baz, did you fit the 9200 yourself? is it easy for a competent DIYer to do? Where did you locate the screen and where did you locate the buttons? I have been thinking about where best to locate the screen, buttons and the microphone(S) I considered the screen at the back of the tray at the top of the dashboard and teh buttons on the centre console just behind teh gear stick / next to the handbrake.

Shark, I dont have the MFSW or MFD in my car so is a gateway stil the best and also is there a reason why its best not to go for the Bluetooth that you can get for dension?

I was looking at the parrot as it seemed to do everything and be fairly future proof.

Stuey, what problems do you typically see. VW dealer mentioned that radios start cutting out? True?

Yeah i did fit the kit myself, really simple to do, the only thing i had to do was run an ignition 'on' cable from the cigarette lighter (which just means popping off the trim, cutting the wire and running a new wire behind the stereo)

I mounted the screen above the existing stereo but below the hazard switch. i can no longer see the 'passenger airbag light' but its the best place for it.

I put the buttons (which are wireless) below the gear stick so you can easily find them while driving without having to look.

I ran the ipod wire through to the glove box.

the microphone is located to the left hand side of the dials, but to the right of the hour and minute buttons behind the steering wheel.

there is no reason for the radio to start cutting out, it does quickly go silent when your phone connects, and does go silent for 2 seconds when you recieve a message which may be the problem!?

The Dension Bluetooth is only for the Gateway 500, not the 100 or 300. If you don't have an MFD dashboard or RNS510 head unit then I'd say it's not worth it. I could retrofit the MFD for you though?

as long as any ignition feeds that are needed are always soldered instead of just twisted together or scotch blocked they should be fine, problems we see are with systems that are amplified and firms like connects 2 havent released a compatible lead for them, mostly see problems with land rover discos having to run the fly leads through exsisting stereo plugs onto unused pins, not ideal but they work, the higher parrot systems tend to be able to do music streaming from mp3 players etc. its just as easy and cheaper to have a lower system and have an mp3 lead seperately. gonna post some hot news for all bury 9060 owners in seperate post

Sorry to hijack this message, but do you know if the cable identified also works for a Tiguan? Are any other cables required to plug-in the Parrot MKi9200?
    Thanks

    Hi,

i got my kit fitted labout 10 days ago. I had bought the cable from Parrot online and it gave a list of the cars that the cable worked with... Check out the parrot site as it may be able to help, they certainly knew what one I needed.

I ended up getting the MKi9200 kit installed professionally as got a really good deal on it and also getting my say nav cable hard wired in to the car too...

Delighted with the MKi9200, top bit of kit.... totally love it, comes highly recommended. The screen sits just above the radio, the mic by the rear view mirror and the cables for the ipod etc were just long enough to get to the centre armrest storage box. Works like a dream.
