I have just received a letter from my dealer offering a 3 year service plan for my new A4 Avant which I pick up on 1 September.

The plan costs £500.44 over 3 years (can be paid by interest free DD monthly instalments). It covers the following services:

10000 mile - Engine oil and oil filter
20000 mile - Engine oil, oil filter and pollen filter
30000 mile - Engine oil and oil filter

I like the idea of paying monthly instalments to avoid being lumbered with a big yearly bill. At the top of the letter it says it includes Audi's current 10% discount offer. I do intend using my dealer for these services over the next 3 years to keep a Full Dealer Service History. Does this sound like a deal worth taking up?
Delivered 1 Sept 09 (Build Week 30): B8 A4 Avant - 2.0 TFSI Quattro S-Tronic S Line Executive - Ibis White (QF- Silver Stich Black Leather/Alcantara) - 18" 5 Spoke S-Line Alloys - Privacy Glass; Parking System Plus; AMI; Rear Side Blinds; DAB; Deletion of Model/Capacity Designation; Folding Exterior Mirrors; Heated Front Seats; Interior Light Pack; Storage Pack; 30mm S-Line Sports Suspension (Quattro); Iphone 3G Cradle; Roof Bars

Doesn't sound that great to me. £500 for 15 litres of oil, 3 oild filters and a pollen filter!

I know that you get the services included so that's perhaps an unfair summary. I personally wouldn't go for that deal. Its nowhere near as comprehensive as the BMW servicing deals where you pay a fee servicing is covered up to 60k miles. It just sounds like you are spreading the cost of the services and not really getting any major discount.

You could always stick £20 a month in a bank account and then when servicing time comes round have the pick of the local dealers and see who gives the best price. Tying yourself to a single dealership seems risky - what if the franchise changes?

What would I know - I am new to Audi. My first service will be a week on Monday so I will get a feel for things then. If I recall my 19,000 mile service will be £270 + VAT. On a cost per mile basis its comparable with your "deal".

Just my two pence worth. I wouldn't do it.

    Tigersargyle,

I have a similar plan but which also includes all maintenance repairs and parts such as brake pads, wipers, bulbs etc.

Also don’t forget at least one brake fluid change and one air con service over the three years which is another £200. For me the figures work when I researched the service costs but perhaps it’s cheaper where you are.

    Hope this helps.

How many brake pads / wipers / bulbs will you get through in 30k miles?

I have the Audi Service, Maint and Tyres package. It's £36 per month but I think I will come out 'in the money' in 3 years. Had a similar package on my Passat. It's a good way to budget as well. I guess it's 'horses for courses'.

    A adam,
appreciate your view but I'm not really worried how many wipers or brake pads, bulbs, disc's etc, the point is that it gives me the peace of mind to know that all areas are covered and with the cost of audi parts etc I believe that it makes good sense.

I have annual service as I don't like the variable service and already had a complete check on the car for insurance report following a no blame collision which was also free of charge.
As already been said horses for courses and what suites some may not others. Overall IMO its very good value and agree its a good way of budgeting for what is an expensive car maintenance if privately owned.

Perhaps I was being too flippant. I agree it gives peace of mind. In my personal circumstance the 30k miles would be an issue as I do more than that in a year.

The scheme including gyres at £36 per month sounds good though I imagine there is a mileage limit on that.

I pay for my servicing and would love there to be an audi service package to give financial peace of mind. Perhaps I need to ask and see how much it would be for me doing 35 k miles a year.

    Good luck

    Adam
