I was lying in bed this morning thinking about the Porsche buying VAG now VAG buying Porsche saga (yes, I know, sad git) and was wondering now that VAG comprises Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche, the commercial vehicle arm, Bugatti and Scania (!), which is THE ONE BEST vehicle from all those brands? Not just taking into account raw power, speed, luxury or any other mega buck factors but also practicality, value, looks, driving experience, reliability and any other factors that you can think of plus not being confined to current new cars but any car produced by the respective brand whilst under VAG ownership. How about compiling a list of the top ten based not only on our experiences of owning them but also our desire to own them? Maybe I could do with some input as to how to arrange the format of this (say as a poll) not being an internet expert.

Ok, you need to be more specific and pic one-The Best. So, if it was a Golf 1 GTI (I have one myself), would it be a 1.6 or 1.8? I think the rules will have to evolve on this one.

For me, at the moment, I think it has to be the current RS6 Avant, it is just such a compelling all rounder and probably the last of its ilk.

The best allrounder has got to be the golf mk5/6 gti. Has the looks, reliability, performance, comfort etc etc..

Yes, the Golf 5 GTI is definitely a contender, not so sure about the Golf 6 yet but I do prefer its looks over the Golf 5. Should we make a top ten list do you think or just thrash out the number 1? Today I am more Phaeton W12 than RS6, tomorrow-who knows! T5 Multivan?

If we can change our minds daily or whenever we re-post then, today for me it is a MK4 Golf fitted with the 110hp VE diesel engine.

Yes, a change of mind whenever is great up until we can thrash out a winner. The Golf 4 was a good (but not great) car, especially in its much more reliable VEP TDI incarnation.

I suppose what we are heading towards is ten nominations from the VAG group for a pole at some point.

wow this is a HUGE question
i go for all rounder wise and never owned one but it has always been a thought

    Seat Leon 1.8 20V Turbo

yes the engine is used in a few cars, but i like the shape, its looks great in metallic grey
it has performance as in highly tunable, driven by grannys and Enthusiast alike
fairly cheap to run so long as you are not seventeen with a spot problem
(now all i need is shooting down)
heh!!!!thats my fifty pence and i own a mk3 16v golf gti which to me is also a very good car
    regards sticky
crasher this is hard one not a small thread i fear!!

Yes, the Leon 1 is a very nice design, much better looking than the Leon 2, I would go for the Leon 1 Cupra R with that choice, quite the perfect hatch. Even better if it had been 4WD. They did a 4WD 180PS but never a 225PS, same.
