    The turbo on my 2004 Golf TDI 130 has gone. Lots of smoke as you can imagine.
    There are several different turbos on the go second hand but all have different codes.
    Can anyone tell me how to determine which code I need? I can not see anything relavent on the turbo itself.

    You need a Garrett VNT 1749va. A vnt1749vb (pd 150 turbo)would also do very nicely but this is a more expensive turbo than the A version and as rare as hens teeth in a breakers yard... It is a more capable and reliable turbo allowing more boost than the A version.

    It would bolt straight onto your current tdi130 manifold and would be what I would get if my current turbo went as it would be good for 190bhp with a custom map on a 130tdi....

    A FMIC would be wise along this power though...


    But if your car is unmodified and you dont plan to modify it stick with the A version

    Still looking for a turbo, just use the car for commuting to work so will stick to the A if I can get one.

    Did a bit more checking over the car today and found that it had a lot of oil in it. I change and check the oil regularly, probably not as much as I should but never mind.

    Anyway from the smell I am almost certain that it was diesel mixed in with the engine oil? Anyone any ideas how this could be mixing? I thought maybe something to do with high pressure pump? It would be nice if the gasket caused it but I am probably not that lucky.

    It's the turbo - leave it alone and don't start it anymore and just get it towed to garage when you're ready to fix it.

    Got a brand new one for mine for £640 inc VAT with 12 months warranty from garrett - can find cheaper refurbished but planning on keep car for another 60,000 so thought it deserved a new one, though wasn't paying dealer or TPS price on it.

    Cheers, the fuel in the oil the turbo as well? Thats good news.
    The car is in my driveway with the turbo off so not going anywhere until I get it fixed.

    If you want to keep it standard I have a 130 turbo which has covered about 41k miles. I think its a KKK model. Just let me know if you need any further details.

    The 1749va turbo seems to be the correct one, my one does have those markingts on it. Does yours? It is the one complete with manifold. If that is your one as well let me know how much you want for it?

    It isn't exactly the same yours I believe yours could be a Garret turbo?
    However it will fit & it does come with the exhaust manifold. I consulted some experts (Jabbasport) they say it would fit but you or who ever fitted it for you would have to fit a EGR sensor blank. This I believe is on a pipe which goes from the exhaust manifold to the inlet manifold, then the sensor would simply have to be electronically turned off using the vag com an easy job for any one with one. Your car would then run fine.
