Depends how many NCB you have?
I would say you would be looking at about £1600 or so.
Also depends on where you live, storage of car, miles per year.
Why not just get on a insurance site and find out yourself?

    Have you tried www.moneysupermarket.com

Did a quote out of curiosity - a 19 year old living in Reading insuring a 2002 Golf GTI 1.8T £250 excess, no NCB having passed test 1 year ago.

    Cheapest: £3,294 (Admiral)
Most Expensive: £9,883 (IGO4More, whoever they are)

Ouch. Well, that's what you pay if you are a young driver and want to drive a performance car. You may need to set you sights on something more reaslistic until you're over 25 and built up some NCB.
2003 VW Golf Est 1.9 TDI 130 (gone but not forgotten after 367,000 miles)
    2006 Audi A3 2.0 TDI Sport 140

You might be better off, phoning companies up and doing it over the phone have you tried Direct Line?

well I'm 22, with my GTI 180, Was 21 when I got it.
At 19 I had a golf VR6, that was group 16 IIRC? so same as my car now.
I had a BMW 330d sport when I was 21, and that was group 16 too.
I dont think I've ever paid more than £1500 for my insurance.
