    PD engines on the B5 Passat only came in on 2000 models, so yours is not one of those.

    Post your engine code (3 letters like ATJ, found in handbook or in spare wheel well) on here to confirm.
    Nothing to see here, move along..

    PD = Pumpernickel Dingerdongerdoppleganger

    Seriously it stands for Pump Deuce which translated to English is Pump Nozzle. On a PD engine the injector pumps and pressurises the fuel as opposed to a separate pump and injector arrangement which is what your car has got.

    Fear not as the old rotary pumped or VE TDI engines such as yours are probably the best VW/Audi have ever made. They are very very strong capable of massive milage and are very good on fuel.

    The PDs are capable of muchos milagous providied they are treated like a princess with regard to oil.... Where as the older tdis you can get away with the semi synthetic cheaper oils.. Having owed both I have to say I prefer the surge of the pd engine but thats just me... Either way you got a great oil burner under the hood!
