I'm considering buying either a Pasat estate TDI 130 in either Sport or Highline spec. But what are the differences? As far as I can see:

    Sport
    17in wheels
    sport seats?

    Highline
    16in wheels
    full leather

There has to be more to it than this?

    Thanks

Surely a B5.5 130TDI Sport has 16in wheels (mine has) and the Highline 15`s?
    The B6`s have 17`s and 16`s respectively.

The 130TDI Sport also had the 6-speed gearbox (and 228lb/ft torque, according to the VW data supplied with the car) against the (not very nice IMO) 5-speed gearbox and 215lb/ft torque.
The sports suspension, for me, made the all the difference to the car, being lower and stiffer, but the Highline (don`t like the name, I remember the Austin Maxi with the same moniker!) had cruise control which wasn`t standard on the Sport.

agreed, the Sport has the bigger wheels with 16in tyres and 7 spoke alloys, also as mentioned the sports suspension, and sports seats, with the higher torque engine, mine was checked at 215 or so on a rolling round, with 135bhp, which is now up to 170bhp, and nearly 270 torques (thanks Mark from chip n' Spin)

if you can get one with leather seats all the better, which should come with heating which helps in the Winter months

Is it the 6 speed gearbox or the sport engine itself that has the higher Torque??

It may be cobblers, but I was told by a VW guy that the reason for a lower torque figure for vehicles with the old 5-speed box was down to the box having a lower max. torque rating, i.e it was getting close to what VW reckoned was a safe limit to ensure longevity and reliability.
The 6-speed being a newer design can handle the higher torque levels of the modern engines.

    Apparently.

Does the Highline also have the aluminium dash/door handle area trim which the Sport has?
