    Hi there,

Hope somebody can help - you've never let me down yet.

I recently bought on ebay a second hand climate control unit for my 1996 1.8 Avant. Although it looked the same it was off a different model. Since fitting, although the display works fine now, a couple of problems have emerged that I didn't have before.

    1. I can hear the motors whirring that I assume set the flaps that direct the air - this continues for 5 - 10 seconds when in AUTO mode.

    2. The air conditioning has stopped working and seems to be set at the outside air temp, even on low. The heating seems to work O.K.

I heard somewhere that when you change the Climate Control Unit that it has to be re-set. Presumably this can be done with VAG-COM??

Any advice / comments would be appreciated

    Thanks in Anticipation

The first you need to check is if the coding is the same as the old one.You will then need to adapt the new unit to the AC flap motors,in basic setting.

Thanks, Sorry to seem a bit dumb but I haven't used VAG-COM previously - how do it go about doing what you suggest and what do I need? Thanks

If you can, to make it easier, fit the old unit and read, and note the coding i.e (001004)If this is not the same then you will have to recode the new unit,we can get back to that, when you have checked it.To enter the climate control control unit press 08

Thanks for the info, Unfortunately I have binned the old unit (stupid I know!) so I can't get the number off it. So if you could give me details of the next step I would be appreciative.
    Cheers

One again Thanks, I may take me a few days to get this info together. I haven't tried to use VAG-COM yet as I only got the cable recently. As soon as I get the info I will post it against this enquiry. Cheers.

just a quick question. Why did you originally replace the unit? Was it bad? I have a problem where mine flickers and doesn't blow hot air even after a recharge.

    Hi there,

Sorry for delay coming back you. I have just managed to get VAG-COM working.

I have had a look at the compressor and cannot see any manufacturers name. There is a green sticker that says "HFC134a. Use for HFC134b" but I think is to do with the Coolant Gas. Do you know where the manufacturer ID would be located on the compressor?

The engine Type is ADR and the VIN is WAUZZZ8DZTA261785.

I have attached a photo of the label on the back of the Climate Control Unit - It's the first time I've sent an attachment so I hope it gets to you.

I don't know if this is enough to work with - I hope so!

    Many thanks

There should be a small metal plate riveted to the compressor,i need to know which make the compressor is,to find the code for the control unit.
