I'm sure theres a more logical way but I noticed some date stickers when I removed my stereo. Looks like mine was built late july and registered september.

I want to know as I recently bought a new 2.0 tdi 6 speed manual passat estate which was pre-registered on the start of Apr 2009. I put the engine code into a web checker and it turns out it is a pd engine and not a common rail diesel which I cannot believe!! The salesman stated clearly I was buying a common rail diesel car and that VW don't put the PD engines into the passat estates any more. I smelt a rat when I noticed the radio was the old rcd300 unit but I am fuming!

I am also not sure of the legality of registering a car in Apr 09 that is clearly not even a late 08 car!!

I ended up using the number in the middle of the chassis number as it indicates the manufacture cycle year (i.e. from August to July so an 08 car could be made anywhere from Aug 2007 to July 2008).

If you ask your dealer nicely, they can put your reg umber into their system which gives them the chassis number (or just give them the chassis number) and then they can put this into ETKA which will then give them and info page. If they scan across this it into I think the third menu along it will give the actual date the car was made. I can get it down to the nearest month with the chassis number, no closer.
