I'd lwas thinking of a boost gauge too, I'd prefere one in the center vent http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shar...b7a4boostgauge but Diesels would need a different gauge but I can't remember why at the moment!

Diesels need a boost gauge wich does not show negative vacuum and wont go over 3 bars as most turbochargers wont peak more than 2 bars and they are regulated by the ECU at roughly 1.2-1.5 bar. A petrol designed one works just fine though... Another gauge to consider is an exhaust gas temperature one if you are running a highly tunned engine as it could save your turbo.

can anyone tell me if you can get a vacuum/boost gauge to work on a diesel? i have just fitted a vdo vac/boost gauge and tee-ed it up to the pipe that comes off the turbo and goes to the pressure sensor. as expected the gauge only reads positive pressure. is there a place to get vacuum pressure as well?
    cheers

Diesels dont have manifold vaccum thats why they have vac pumps for servos etc.
vac on petrols is caused by the throttle flap closing and the cylinders still drawing air out of the manifold.

I'm interested in the Turbo Gauge, so to understand in simple terms the gauge shows when the turbo kicks in? and Boost level from the turbo?

    or am i completely wrong

Thats it the boost guage just show manifold pressure,
which is created by the turbo.
