    Hi All,

Just wanted to know how you go about fitting roof bars on my 55 plate TDI Sport Saloon.
I know that when you open the door there appears to be mounting points on the A frame that look like they require a tiny Hex key to access.
I assume roof bars can be fitted to my Passat as when i visited the Audi garage today they had a new A4 with them fitted and they appeared to be a similar set up needed for my Passat.

Anyone know where the best place is to get some
    Roof bars?
    Prices?
    Makes and Models?

I swear by the Thule system.

3 components required; bars, feet and vehicle fitting kit (part nos. 769, 750 and 1442).

    Prices about £110 - £140 all in.

Searching ebay for "thule passat 1442" usually gets a hit or two.

Would certainly second the use of Thule.

Got the bars, feet and fitting kit originally for my Passat B5 Saloon.
Then changed to A4 Saloon and swapped the fitting kit.
Then changed to A4 Estate and swapped the feet.
Then changed to Passat B6 Estate and didn't need to swap anything.

Have Bike Racks and a Roof Box to fit onto the Bars.

Cheers for the replies fellas, my only concern is wind noise, where the brackets mount to the frame of the car it will affect the rubber strip closing tightly i noticed this when i looked at the Audi A4 yesterday.
Do you get any wind noise from around the door seals or is everything still whisper quiet.

Having only fitted the bars to my B6 saloon last night, I did notice some extra wind noise today. However it wasn't intrusive and once the bike racks are fitted and bikes loaded I would expect to have some noise.

On balance though, comparing with other systems the Thule's simply "do what they say on the tin", and as jonsey24 pointed out, changing relevantly cheap fitting kits is usually enough when going from one car to another.

I'm now on my 5th vehicle using these roof bars!

Note: when changing from one car to another, don't give away the redundant parts as I did. Two years later I had to repurchase the longer bars as I'd previously given them to a friend
