Dropped my new to me car in for it's third long lift service a few weeks ago. I have had numerous other little issues etc that you get with dealers and a few problems with car (although they all appear to be well documented here) however

Yesterday morning I pressed the service indicator before starting (mainly because i read how to get it to work on here the night before cheers!) and it was showing 340 days or 7K till next service

Amazingly they had reset the car to standard service intervals!

I called on my way to work, the service guy apologised and said that it did indeed state on the computer it was a long interval service to drop the car in and they would reset it.

I called in on the way from home, asked if I could be assured the numpty had put the right oil in also, and was told they only have one type of oil so it must be.

They took the car to the workshop and after about 10 mins brought it back saying i couldn't be changed for some reason the car wouldn't allow it and that when it shows up as due bring it back and they will just reset it to long interval for the remainder.

    There is a couple of things that concern me;

    - After 10K miles will the reset/changeover then correctly identify when the service is actually due?

    - Could this be a a genuine user error on the computer, as the car was already doing long interval servicing so i presume it had to be changed, or is this unlikely?

    - Could the inability to change indicate a problem with the ECU?

I guess my paranoia comes from a lack of confidence following a few other questionable sales suggestion when having the car serviced.

I'd appreciate any experiences or thoughts others have

I will be writing to the service manager about the whole experience as he sent me a letter asking for negative feedback before giving it to VW direct.

I have had a bad experience with JCT600 in York recently, where I was told a complete pack of lies and spoken to by patronising staff; once I have resolved the issue with my car elsewhere I will say more, but suffice it to say that they are a complete shower and the only time I will go back there is to get my money back.

Epoch. It might be worth asking on here if anyone local to you has vag-com and can check/reset the service interval. That would at least tell you if the ecu is reading ok and perhaps ease your mind.

I don't know what they did do yesterday but today about 140 miles later its now reading 2600 miles till the next service so it'll not be long before it's reading a service requirement.

I'll look into the vag-com idea as it may prove useful anyway.

    Gents

I bought my Passat from JCT600 York in 2007 but refuse to let them anywhere near it due to their unbelievable arrogance and breathtaking ability to quote at least 20% more than other dealers for servicing.

In my opinion (but by no means a recommendation) I prefer to use the main dealer in Doncaster (Hayseldens) as the service reception staff actually know about cars, and their pricing is generally the best I have found. I've even managed to haggle.

Let me know if you want me to dig the paperwork out and post the actual price for my recent long life service 2 which included a brake fluid change.

    Cheers
