    Hi

I'm considering purchasing a 2008 A6 2.7TDi Le Mans. I fancy the multitronic option, but i'm a little put off by some of the stories I've read re: premature failures of these boxes. It appears to be fairly common.
Have audi sorted the problem on later cars? Should I stick with the manual?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Ian

The later ones appear to be better but as they are new people havent got so many miles on them.

Go for a Tiptronic Quattro instead!

when they are working the multitronics are outstanding units.

pre-2004 are definatley weaker units. However well worth getting a unit with a good warrenty.

Quattro is a bullit proof option, but not as smooth as the multitronic, and a little thirstyer due to the 4wd

Drove both a 2.7TDI Le Mans multitronic and a 3.0TDI Quattro Tiptronic Le Mans yesterday and in my opinion there is no comparison.
The Multitronic was smoother but also was very vague, giving the impression of totally disconnecting the driver from the whole drivin experience. The power and delivery of that power in the 3.0TDI quattro suited my preferences much better. I also spoke to one of the mechanics who confirmed that they have MUCH more "business" from multitronic owners, even on newer cars.

    Quattro it is for me!!!!!!!

Call me old fashioned, I have a 58 plate Le Mans 2.7TDI, stick with the manual, less to go wrong, better driver engagement, cheaper and more MPG.
