Had the airbag light on my 1999 A4 1.9TDI come on for no apparent reason so i invested in a scan reset tool which old me that the likely problem was that the control module for the airbag was faulty so it looks like its goin to need replaced but the trouble is i dont know here to look for it, i reckon its mounted under the dashboard somewhere but dont want to go pulling the whole thing to bits if I dont need to, anybody any idea where to look for it?

Its infront of the gear change. you need to remove the console and maybe the radio to get at it. I've just Done my Golf MK5 luckly VW moved it and i only had to remove 2 pieces of plastic

You will need to code in the new one, so make a note of it before removing it.

If you have scanned your car you should have a report like this

    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Address 15: Airbags Labels: 1K0-909-605.lbl
    Part No SW: 1K0 909 605 R HW: 1K0 909 605 R
    Component: 38 AIRBAG VW8 018 2200
    Revision: 02018000 Serial number: 0038MD06SWZI
    Coding: 0013112
    Shop #: WSC 01269 785 00200

    7 Faults Found:
    00003 - Control Module
    014 - Defective - MIL ON
01222 - Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Passenger Side (G180)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

The bit in bold is the adaption code, this tells the Airbag ECU how many airbags what type etc. you need to adapt this code on the new module to the same value as read by your code scan

    does that make sense?
