I need to tighten a steering rack and the procedure requires the use of VAG Special Tool 3315 (A kit of ~10 tools). Anyone any ideas where I could get hold of one (either to borrow/rent) OR any independent who might have this kit in his workshop (in SE England)?

I've tried my local VW Garages and they can't help... if they can't where do I go?

    HoG

According to the workshop manuals you can tighten the rack itself... Attached is a photo of the actual fitting....

i see its a different type to usual
measure the across the flats a go to your local halfords to see if they have a allen key or can get one
tweak up small amounts at a time to adjust but check when both wheels are suspended and turn wheel from side to side checking for tight spots

Thanks for your help - but alas not so simple....

The piping partly obscures the fitting so you can't get an Allen key into it - I could get into it with a nut and bolt cut down but I can't find one the correct size!! (21mm)

To add insult to injury, the adjustment is held in place with a locking ring around the outside (~40mm) - something like a crows foot spanner might get round it to also avoid the hydraulics (but at 40mm such a spanner is v. expensive!)

The VAG Tool (#3315) is a kit of ~10 different specials that get over these problems easily (well relatively)!

The whole job would take less than 30mins if I could find this kit - without it its a big job!

    Hmmmmm...

There is just no access to get any thing in there!

Thanks for trying - unfortunately no one seems to have ever seen this tool.
